As British authority expanded in Central India, tribal lands faced administrative control and revenue policies. Delan Shah witnessed exploitation and loss of traditional autonomy among his people.
Delan Shah began mobilizing Gond warriors and local leaders. He encouraged unity among villages and prepared them to defend their land and cultural identity against colonial domination.
During the Indian Rebellion of 1857, Delan Shah actively participated in resistance activities in Central India. He supported the broader freedom struggle and led local tribal forces against British troops.
After intense resistance, Delan Shah was captured by British forces. In 1858, he was executed for his role in the uprising, becoming a martyr of the tribal freedom movement.
